What is the Riverside Station Neighborhood Coalition (RSNC)?
The RSNC is an organization that will advocate for the residents of the areas most affected by the proposed 22 acre development of the Riverside Station on Grove Street in Auburndale.
The RSNC was created by the three community associations that surround the Riverside MBTA Station. These three community associations are the Auburndale Community Association, the Lasell Neighborhood Association, and the Lower Falls Improvement Association.
What is the purpose of the RSNC?
The RSNC was created in response to the proposed development at the Riverside MBTA Station. It is led by a steering committee comprised of three representatives from each of the three community associations. The RSNC is an avenue for residents in Newton to be informed, educated and involved with any development at Riverside MBTA Station. Our goal is to make sure that any development at the Riverside MBTA Station is done right. Right now, no one is sure what done right means. We need to see what the developers plans and proposals are, as well as solicit input from community residents. Currently, the RSNC has four active committees:
- Steering: To manage the RSNC; coordinate the work of the other committees; and set the overall strategy, supporting the goals of the community. Steering Committee members are listed here.
- Communications and Outreach: To raise awareness of this project; inform residents about meetings; and increase community understanding and involvement.
- Traffic: To examine the issues associated with increased traffic that would result from this development; work with the residents, developer, city, and state to investigate proposals and alternative solutions.
- Zoning: To closely monitor the process for the creation of a new business zone in Newton and to work with the residents and the city during this process.
Other committees that we expect to form include: Schools, Environment, Fiscal Impact, and Fundraising.
What should I do?
In order for the RSNC to be most effective, we need to hear from you! We want you to share your ideas and thoughts with us, so we will know how to best represent concerns not only from the surrounding neighborhoods, but also from the community at large.
What is the status of the Riverside project?
